Award tickets are sold separately. If you are shortlisted for a Tech Leaders Award, you will be invited to attend the gala event on the 9 September 2020 and will need to purchase a ticket to attend. This is not mandatory and attendance does NOT affect your chances of winning an award.
Business Leader of the Year
A leader of a technology company, or a business leader within a large technology company, who has demonstrated outstanding business leadership in the last 18 months. Judges will examines the progress/growth of the company in the last three years (with particular emphasis on the last 18 months, including financial results), customer wins, innovation it has brought to the market, customer testimonials, examples of strong leadership, and specific achievements and initiatives of the candidates.
CIO of the Year
A chief information officer or IT director who has demonstrated positive impact on the company’s bottom line through the deployment of technology and the strong execution of a stellar IT strategy. Candidates will include examples of strong leadership and how their IT deployments have improved the efficiency of internal processes, aligned to business goals, maximised productivity, improved internal communication and kept the organisation running as effectively as possible. Judges will also assess how well the CIO has kept the organisation at the forefront of innovation and has promoted the use of technology as a force for driving business value across the whole organisation.
Company of the Year
This can be either a technology company that has improved business operations and driven innovation through the use of technology, or a company from any other industry that has used technology to deliver improved business results. Judges will look at efforts the employer has made to adopted different technologies to create a more innovative and productive working environment.
CTO of the Year
A chief technology officer or technology director who has demonstrated positive impact on the company’s top line and driven new customer value through the innovative use of technology. Candidates will include examples of strong leadership and how they have employed a technology strategy to enhance product development and improve the service the company provides to customers. Judges will also asses how well engrained the chief technology officer is in the business and how he/she has helped put technology at the heart of the business, driving strong commercial results in the process.
Data Leader of the Year
An IT, technology or business leader who has demonstrated successful results in the area of data technology in the last 18 months. This could include demonstrations of successfully deploying data technologies; improving how a company uses or deals with data; delivering effective data strategies; enhancing decision-making with data; creating business value, efficiencies and cost savings, or improving services, through the use of data; helping a company handle data growth; driving new data innovation in the industry; or furthering knowledge, awareness and education around data and related technologies.
Digital Leader of the Year
A digital or business leader who has demonstrated successful results in the area of digital innovation in the last 18 months. This could include demonstrations of successfully deploying digital technology or a digital transformation; improving how a company approaches digital; delivering effective digital strategies; transforming the way a business operates through digital innovation; creating business value, efficiencies and cost savings, or improving services, through the use of digital technology; helping a company handle the challenges that come with digital; driving new digital innovation in the industry; or furthering knowledge, awareness and education around digital and related technologies.
Disruptive Leader of the Year
An IT, technology or business leader who has disrupted a business, industry, market or long-held way of doing something through the innovative use of technology in the last 18 months. This could be disruption at an internal, operation level, or disruption at a customer-facing level. Judges will examine just how disruptive they feel the leader has been, looking at the exact technologies involved, how they’ve been applied, and how they’ve changed the way things are done or the way people/organisations consume, operate or behave. Ultimately, the judges will look at the business results and innovation that the leader has created through the technology-led disruption it has driven.
Diversity Leader of the Year
An IT, technology or business leader who has gone out of her/his way in the last 18 months to support the cause of increasing diversity in the workplace. Efforts to increase diversity could include initiatives for making technology workforces a more inclusive environment for people of different genders, races, sexual orientations, cultures, disabilities and backgrounds. Judges will assess the diversity initiatives the candidates have pioneered, including their impact on the business, as well as demonstrations of being a positive role model, attracting (and retaining) a more diverse workforce, and generally making the workplace a more inclusive environment.
Future Leader of the Year
An IT or technology professional who started their career in the last five years but has demonstrated strong potential for becoming a successful technology leader. Judges will look at each candidate’s achievements and growth trajectory in the last five years, with a particular emphasis on accomplishments in the last 18 months. These could include contributions to successful IT projects, as well as demonstrations of strong management skills, creating business value from technology, understanding the impact of technology on the business, and helping drive new innovation in the industry.

Security Leader of the Year
An IT, technology, security or business leader who has demonstrated successful results in protecting a company from cyber threats or progressing the cyber security industry in the last 18 months. This could include demonstrations of successfully keeping a company protected; innovative approaches to cyber security; delivering effective security strategies; helping a company deal with cyber threats; driving new security innovation in the industry; creating security awareness programmes in the workplace; or furthering knowledge and education around cyber security.

Transformation Leader of the Year
An IT, technology or business leader who has led an IT transformation, digital transformation or business change programme driven by technology in the last 18 months. Judges will assess the planning, execution and results of the transformation programme, looking particularly at the technologies and innovation involved, best practice, alignment to business goals, impact on the business, training/awareness/education, ROI achieved, and how culture shifts were managed.
