Biography: John Gibbs, Group CIO, Rolls-Royce

John was appointed the Group CIO for Rolls-Royce plc in February 2016 and has over 25 years’ experience of delivering IT. As the Group CIO he is responsible for ensuring that Rolls-Royce plc has the digital capability (processes, applications, data and technology) it needs to succeed. This includes the full IT lifecycle; strategy & enterprise architecture, projects, services, security, risk & compliance, and ensuring value for money. He is also champions people development and diversity across the business.  He is a strong advocate of women in IT: 50% of his senior leadership team is female and he has encouraged the development of the Women in IT and Parenting networks. 

In Rolls-Royce,  John has held a variety of roles. He was previously the Divisional CIO for Aerospace, Engineering & CHQ; the IT Chief Technology Officer –  winning the Best IT Strategy award at the national IT Awards – and IT Transformation & Programmes Director,  where he led the Energy divesture and a £300m infrastructure modernisation programmes; he was also Director of IT Operations & Infrastructure.

 John has previously worked for companies including Computer Sciences Corporation, Royal Mail, and Computer Resources International in various leadership and technical roles.
